Chicken & Sausage Gumbo

Last year, my organization held their annual conference in New Orleans, LA. It was a fantastic trip where to a city I've never been to.

I went to Bourbon Street to Pat O'Briens, and had an original Hurricane drink.

I went to Cafe Dumond and had their famous beignets which I still dream about from time to time - and I crave their chickory coffee constantly!

But my absolute favorite thing about New Orleans was chicken and sausage gumbo. Anytime I saw it on a menu, I had to order it. I ate a lot of gumbo. The unfortunate thing is that I'm not much of a cook (I refer to myself as a "baker" instead). I thought my gumbo days were over. And then, I came across Campbell's Chicken & Sausage Gumbo - a fabulous 2 minute substitute for what I'm incapable of accomplishing with my tender cooking skills. Warning, it does have a bit of a kick to it. Every time I have a bowl (like today for instance) I'm taken back to New Orleans - without the humidity. Yum!

Lash Serum and Nail Envy - Wedding Wonders for this Matron of Honor

It all started back right after Thanksgiving. I met my sister-in-law at Whole Foods for dinner - our special spot were secrets are spilled and venting commences. As we were checking out with our salad bar selections, Gail suddenly turned to me when I handed my credit card to the cashier and said "Will you be my matron of honor?" Now, I knew she was going to ask me, but here's the kicker, SHE WASN'T ENGAGED YET! Yeah, that's right, no ring on her finger. However, I was hungry and of course honored so I hugged her tightly and said "Of course!" After retrieving my card from the stunned cashier (I'm sure that's never happened in her check out line before) I immediately began to form a list in my head about what I need to improve upon physically. At the top of my list was, of course, those 10 pesky holiday pounds. However, what might surprise you: my eyelashes and my fingernails. I have short, stubby lashes that I try to extend futilely with "lash lengthening" mascaras (to no avail). However, I saw a commercial for this product called L'Oreal Lash Serum, it costs about $12 and I found it at Target and was so impressed with the results! I wore it at night and during the day for two weeks straight and my lashes were fuller and longer, and noticeably so. The wedding was the first weekend in April and I still had serum left so it worked for about 2 months. Not bad right? I also came across Nail Envy by O.P.I. which costs around $16, but helped keep my nails from breaking. Was I able to lose the 10 pounds I wanted to? No, but I lost 12 after the wedding was over! Go figure.
